BREATH -
Biomedical Research in Endstage and Obstructive Lung Disease Hannover
The BREATH Faculty is comprised of more than 50 doctors and scientists from the partner institutions Hannover Medical School, the Fraunhofer- Institute for Toxicology and Experimental Medicine, Leibniz Universität Hannover and the CAPNETZ-STIFTUNG.
The areas of research focus lie in the end-stage and obstructive lung diseases. Using state-of-the-art technology, BREATH characterizes patients with obstructive lung diseases, in order to establish therapeutic approaches and prevention strategies as well as personalized medicine for the patient.
The BREATH research network uniquely unites internationally recognized expertise in translational pulmonary medicine. Well established animal model systems as well as clinical studies, based on large patient cohorts and carried out to the highest standards, are employed.
REBIRTH-
Cluster of Excellence in the area of Regenerative Biology and Reconstructive Therapies
The Excellence Initiative of the German Federal Republic honors and sponsors exceptionally innovative research initiatives.
The REBIRTH Cluster of Excellence addresses major challenges to human health. Based both on known biological principles and those yet to be discovered, the vision is to explore and develop new therapeutic concepts that go beyond other contemporary approaches.
REBIRTH's researchers are working to develop new therapies in the field of regenerative science and medicine to address some of the most devastating heart, lung, liver and blood disorders (including immune disorders).
